Before I imported Chip (Lacewood The Star Trooper) from the States he had his hips checked by his previous owner. There was no point in importing a promising male with an outstanding pedigree if his hips were less than perfect.
In January
2012 I decided to have Chip’s hips officially scored by the Danish Kennel
Club/FCI. Despite having taken 15+ pictures, the ones that we finally chose to
send in were returned by the DKK as they did not meet requirements. In July we
retook the photos at the vets. The vets again had a hard time getting a clear
photo that meet the strict requirements the FCI have. One hip looked perfect,
the other was as if it was floating/separated from the socket. I looked at the photos
and expected them to come back as an A-E. The DKK gave the hips A-C. I knew
there was something wrong – not with the hips, photoes or the grading, but from
the time where Chip originally was checked until now.
The day
after I got the official results I took Chip down to my canine chiropractor.
After checking him, the conclusion was that his pelvis was 1,5 cm out of alignment,
which explains why
1) The vet
had extreme difficulty getting correct photoes
(30+ photoes in two sessions).
2) The hip
scored A-C .
The DKK
does not allow a re-scoring until 6 calender months have passed.
So 6 months
to the day (24 January 2013) I had Chip re-scored at my vets. The hips looked
great, and as expected, they came back yesterday as A-A from the DKK.
The moral
of the story…..? I will always have my dogs checked by the chiropractor before
I have them hipscored.
So....Lacewood The Star Trooper Hips: A-A
Elbows: 0-0
CEA/CH: Normal (Optigen)
MDR1: Clear
