21/1 California Day 4 - Clicker Expo Day 1

As we had been in bed before 9 pm almost everyday we were up bright and early. We went to the reception to ask where breakfast was - it wasn't included in the hotel - but we had ordered a continental breakfast each morning via Clicker Expo.  We weren't sure where breakfast was - so we asked at the reception. There was confusion as to where it was - so we were sent down the corridor and to the left. We came to a room where there were some tables and a breakfast set out. I had stayed at Gothia Towers in Gøteborg 2 weeks previouly and they know how to make a breakfast. This was a sad effort - and there was no coffee or tea :-( There was fruit, sweet pastries and what Oliver Twist would liken to gruel. When we were leaving we realised that this was probably the instructors breakfast room - whoops ! We were directed to the real breakfast area - same food - but with coffee and tea :-D

Our first session was "Aggression Treatment and Context" by Ken Ramirez. This was an outstanding presentation and set our expectation levels for the rest of the day. We drove to Champagnes for lunch and were back in time for our second session. This was a working lab - where people were working their dogs under instructor guidance. There were a lot of dogs, and there was no clear purpose of the session. After the afternoon break we went to the final seminar of the day. The presenter stumbled through the presentation, had only prepared material for an hour and the videoes/material was incoherent.

At lunch time we me a lady who worked as a falconer. She was having lunch outside with her bird and her whippet. We had a lot of questions regarding the training and she had a lot of information on how the bird was trained and until her dog was injured, how she worked them together.
